Claredale summer stay FAQs

Why do I have to pay a deposit?

This is for two reasons. Firstly, to show us that you really do intend to take the room and secondly to cover the cost of any damage or money that you might owe us at the end of your stay. If you fulfil all your contractual requirements, your deposit is separate from your rent and is returned within 28 days of your departure.

When do I have to pay my rent?

Rent is always paid at least one week in advance. This can be paid online through your account with us or you can pay by card in person or over the telephone.

I want to move in before the date stated on the website?

I am sorry but the earliest date you can move in is as stated on our Website. The building will not be ready for you to move in any earlier than this date

I want to stay past the last date stated on the Website. Can I do this?

Again, we are unable to help you after the date stated no our Website as the building will be closed to enable us to prepare the building for a new intake of University students.

What happens if I pay a deposit and then decide I do not want the room before the start of the contract?

If you cancel with more than 56 days to go before the start of the contract, the deposit will be returned in full.
If you cancel between 28 and 56 days to go, we will retain £100 of the deposit as a cancellation fee.
If you cancel with less than 28 days to go, we will retain the deposit in full as a cancellation fee.

When will I get my deposit back?

The deposit is returned to you in full, if you don't owe us any money, within 28 days of the end of the contract.

What happens if I want to leave?

In signing the contract, you are agreeing to remain in residence up to the final date of the contract. If you want to leave, you have to give us one week's notice, in writing. You will also lose your deposit.

What do I need to bring with me?

You will need to provide your own bedding (duvet, duvet cover, sheets, pillows, pillow cases). For information, the beds are 6 feet 3 inches x 3 feet.
You will also need to provide your own pots, pans, crockery and cutlery. Please note, we have induction hobs so your pans must be the type that work with this type of hob. If a magnet can cling to your pans, then they will work on our hobs.
We provide toasters and kettles.

Do I have to insure my possessions?

Yes, you need to arrange your own personal possessions insurance. If you want, we can give you the numbers of a few insurance companies.

Can I have a pet in my room?

Sorry, no pets.

Are rooms en suite?

There are no en suite facilities. Each flat has its own toilet and shower.

Is breakfast provided?

Claredale is self-catered. Our other building, Well Street Hall provides breakfast for its residents should you require a bed and breakfast accommodation option.

What is the latest check-in time?

You can check in anytime between 10.00am – 1.00pm and 2.00pm – midnight. Check out is at 10.00am

Can friends come and stay?

Friends can visit but they cannot stay overnight. If they need accommodation for a night they can contact our other building, Well Street Hall to see if there is a room available.

Who cleans my flat/bedroom?

We employ cleaners to clean the communal areas of your flat once a week but we do not clean your room. You can borrow a vacuum cleaner from the office staff or the subwarden on duty in the evening and at weekends.
Please note cleaners are not employed to clean your pots, pans, crockery and cutlery. You will have to do your own dishes, so please make sure these items are out of the way on the day cleaners visit out flat.

Do you have parking?

We have a limited number of parking spaces in our courtyard, which we allocate on a first-come first-served basis and there's a £100 deposit for the gate key. No other parking is available.
To park outside the building, there are meters for short-term parking. Word of advice, make sure you read the street-parking instructions carefully and if you're on a meter, keep an eye on the time, because they're pretty eager to clamp cars and fine you.

How many toilets are there in each flat?

In flats with less than 5 bedrooms, there is one shower room which also contains a wash basin and toilet. In flats with more than 5 bedrooms there are 2 shower rooms, each with a wash basin and toilet.

Do you have a launderette?

Yes, we've got 6 coin-operated washing machines and 6 tumble dryers. You need to use your own washing powder/liquid. The washing machine costs £2.00 and the tumble dryer costs £1 for every 30 minutes worth of drying.

What should I do if I have a problem?

Just pop into the on-site office, by the main gate. It's open Monday – Friday 8.30am – 1pm and 2pm – 4.30pm. Outside office hours, we have subwardens on duty until midnight and we will give you information about them when you come to stay.

What's the difference between the room sizes?

The rent differs depending on the size of the bedroom. The room category details are provided in a link along with the term-time licence agreement when you apply.

Every bedroom at Claredale is a different size. The amount of bedrooms in a flat has no bearing on the size of the bedrooms in a flat.

You will see the overwhelming majority of the rooms are classified as C and D.

When you apply, you can let us know your room category preference but we cannot guarantee we will be able to offer you the type of room you asked for.

All rooms are furnished in the same way.

Can I share a flat with my friends?

You can request to share with your friends but we cannot guarantee we will be able help you with your request. If we can, please bear in mind this might affect the size of the bedroom we are able to offer you.

Can I apply for a room at both buildings at the same time?

We will only consider your application based on your first choice of building so please only apply for one building.
